Description:
The Sofia Opera's "Ring of the Nibelung" Vol. 2 "Die Walkre" This is the second Ring cycle by the Sofia Opera of Bulgaria, which impressed audiences with its previous production, "Gold of the Rhine". The most popular of the Ring quartet, "Die Walkure" is full of highlights, including Siegmund and Sieglinde's duet in Act I, the "Ride of the Valkyries" in Act II, and "Wotan's Farewell and the Music of the Devil's Flame" in the final act. The production of "Valkyrie" is surprisingly more populist than that of "Gold of the Rhine. The large rings and cones used as objects on stage are continued in this production, and are used in various scenes, such as the cone that looks like the warhead of the rocket in which the Valkyries ride, and the ring of flames surrounding the rocky hill where Brnnhilde sleeps. This production also features a group of talented Bulgarian singers dressed like characters from a special effects monster movie. Among them is Martin Iliev, who sings Siegmund, a talented tenor who gained popularity when he sang Calaf in "Turandot" during the Sofia State Opera's Japan tour in 2015. His performance of the interesting Siegmund in the first act shines through.Led by Pavel Balev's baton, Wagner's music is even more dramatic than his previous works. This "Valkyrie" is a performance that makes one look forward to Sophia Ring's third and fourth productions with great anticipation. Naxos Japan
