Description:
German writer Barthold Heinrich Brockes (1680-1747). His Passion texts were very popular in the 18th century, and several composers, including Reinhard Kaiser, Johann Matthison, Telemann, and Fasch, composed Passion pieces using his poems, and Bach also used Brockes' poems in several movements of the "John Passion. Handel also composed a Passion on a poem by Brockes in the 1710s, and it is known as the only Passion in his life, as well as being a vocal work written in German, which is rare for Handel in the English period. Unfortunately, however, the manuscript has been lost, and not much is known about how it was composed. This time, Concerto Copenhagen, one of Denmark's leading baroque orchestras, took up the challenge of composing this piece. Under the direction of Mortensen, the ensemble has given exquisite performances of numerous works, and this time, they performed Handel's great work, which also has the style of Italian opera, in a splendid manner.
