Description:
This is the seventh collection of piano sonatas by Bohemian composer Kojelf. Included here are four sonatas composed between 1788 and 1789. Among the 50 or so sonatas written for the fortepiano in the early years by Clementi, Dusiek, and others, Cogelf's work is outstanding and serves as a bridge between Haydn, Beethoven, and Schubert. These four sonatas are all different in character, with the elegant and lively No. 25 beginning with the first movement, the impressive No. 26 with its mournful second movement, the Haydn-inspired No. 27, and the Mozart-like No. 28, which is full of musical ideas. Kemp English has already recorded all 50 of Kogelf's sonatas. We look forward to the release of his later works. Naxos Japan
