Designed by Wim Rietveld for Dutch manufacturer Gispen (est. 1916 by Willem Hendrik Gispen (b. 1890- d. 1981)
There is a manufacturers label on the base - catalogues from the period document the designer as Wim Rietveld and the model number.
This chair was first shown at the 10th Milan Triennale in 1954
This model 1401 has a enamelled metal tubular frame with rectangular bakelite armrests.
The frame is black and has been newly upholstered in blue De Ploeg fabric.
