Deerhammer Down Time Single Malt whiskey uses a blend of malted barley grain (hence the "single malt" in the title) it is fermented in yeast used for bourbon and then aged in new charred oak barrels (another bourbon custom). On the European side of the pond, this would be called "virgin oak" scotch and have deeper, more robust oak flavors as a result.

Deerhammer Down Time Single Malt Whiskey Tasting Notes

Nose: Aromas of subtle campfire smoke, vanilla, pie spice and buttery baked bread, with earthy yeast and a little candied orange rind.

Palate: Immediate flavors of sharp charcoal, campfire smoke, black pepper and chili spice, but with tangy orange rind underneath the upfront smoke.

Finish: A mellow, pleasantly yeasty finish, like oiled pizza dough.

Distillery Information

This family-owned micro-distillery is nestled at the foot of the Rocky Mountain's Collegiate Peaks in downtown Buena Vista, Colorado. With their primary focus on artisan American style whiskey, they hand-craft their spirits from start to finish in small batches. It was no mistake that they chose to build their distillery within the Arkansas River Valley. Along with the awe inspiring mountain views and epic kayaking the same glacial water that flows down the continental divide to feed our rivers also happens to make a perfect starting point for their whiskey.
